Gokyo valley trek is one of the exciting and adventurous trekking routes in Khumbu region. The trek starts with the rollercoaster flight to Lukla. The main highlights of the trek are three emerald and jade lakes with mount Cho- Oyu looming behind the lakes. Beyond the Ngozumpa glacier (which is reputed to be the largest glacier in the whole Himalayas) climbing Gokyo Ri is another excitement from where we can gawk at the idiosyncratic beauty of Mt.Everest, Cho-Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablum and much more standing tall and mighty.
Gokyo Valley trek is considered one of the finest trekking route in the Everest Region, it is a traditional trekking route. Gokyo valley, lying beside the biggest glacier in the whole Himalayas-Ngozumpa Glacier and the perspicuous and ultramarine lakes make the Gokyo valley tantalizing.
Moreover, from Gokyo valley, you can do Everest Base Camp Trek via Chola pass and also you can do Renjo-La pass and return back via Thame instead of tracing back the same route to Namche.
The trail to Gokyo is peaceful with few settlements high above the mountains and the trails are one of the finest with rhododendron, pine and birch forest and wildlife like musk deer, Himalayan Thar and much more. Moreover, the trail consists crossing of many suspension bridges and passing many Mani walls and Chortens. In addition getting closer to witness typical Himalayan lifestyle and culture of few dwellers high in the Himalayas is something to experience.

Gokyo Valley Trek - 15 Days Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Tribhuban international airport in Kathmandu
Day 2: Cultural tour to Bouddhanath Stupa and Hindu Cremation site / and Pre trip meeting
Day 3: Early morning flight to lukla (2840m) and trek to Phakding (2610m) 2/3 hrs walk overnight at lodge
Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 5/6 hrs walk overnight at lodge
Day 5: Rest day at Namche for acclimatization and Panorama view hike (3880m) 2/3 hrs walk hike overnight at lodge
Day 6: Trek from Namche to Dole (4100m) 5/6 hrs walking overnight at lodge
Day 7: Trek from Dole to Machhermo (4470m) 3/4 hrs walking, overnight at lodge
Day 8: Rest day at Machhrmo for acclimation and excursion
Day 9: Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo (4790m) 4/5 hrs walking overnight at lodge
Day 10: Early morning hike to Gokyo Ri (5357m) and trek back down to Dole (4100m) 6/7 hrs walking overnight at lodge
Day 11: Trek from Dole to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 4/5 hrs overnight at lodge
Day 12: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2840m) 6/7 hrs walking overnight at lodge
Day 13: Flight back to Kathmandu 35 minutes, and transfer to hotel with Bed & Breakfast plan
Day 14: Free day in Kathmandu with optional sightseeing tour
Day 15: Departure from Kathmandu to your onward destination
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu- Transfer to Hotel
Upon arrival in Kathmandu our representative from Access the Asia will pick us from Tribhuvan International Airport and take us to our hotel with Bed and Breakfast plan.
Day 2: Sightseeing Kathmandu and pre – trek meeting and planning
On this day, cultural city guide will meet you at hotel and he/she will guide you around the Kathmandu valley and you will visit to world heritage sites Bhaktapur Durbar Square,
Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and other cultural and traditional areas after completion of city tour we will return back to office and meet the team and other participant members and discuss over the trip and we will give you a briefing about tour and we will make sure your all the equipments are ready and in fine condition.
Day 3: Fly to Lukla (2860m) and trek to Phakding (2610m) 30minutes of flight and 2/3hrs of walking
This is the day where all the treks to Everest begin. Your guide will meet you at hotel and you will be escorted to the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International airport and take early morning flight to Lukla which is about 30 minutes from Kathmandu. In Lukla we will meet other staffs there we will set luggage for porters to carry. After that we will have a walk through the stone trails and forest observing the local villages and reach Phakding and stay overnight.
Note: All the flights to Lukla are scheduled early in the morning however sometimes due to weather problem flight may be delay at those situations we would like you to have patience.
Day 4: Trek from Phakding (2610m) to Namche (3440m) 5/6 hrs of walking
On this day we will take breakfast at nearly 7:30 am and without out any further delay we set out for another 5-6 hours walk to Namche bazaar. On the trail we will pass through various suspension bridges and cross the Dudh Koshi River. We will encounter villages like Toktok, banker and Monjo; Monjo is the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park our guide will complete all the necessary formalities to enter to the Sagarmatha National Park. After 15 minutes walk we will arrive at Jorsale and will take lunch there after that we walk alongside the Trail of Dudh Koshi River and Bhote Koshi River and steep trails of hills. Overnight at Namche bazaar
Day 5: Rest day/Acclimatization
Although this is a rest day but actually after breakfast we will hike to Everest view point so as to keep ourselves active and adapt to climate moreover from Everest view point we will be able to view the scenic beauty of Amadablam, Everest, Lotse, Nuptse, Thamserku, Kongde and so on then we will return back to Namche Bazaar and have lunch then if you are interested you can take a short tour of Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the biggest and colorful bazaar of Everest or Khumbu region; it is the hub for all the travelers and local people. There are cafes, cyber, pub, ATM’s and other local businesses. Day 6: Trek to Dole (4100m) 5/6 hrs of walking
On this day after breakfast we set for another 5/6 hours walk to Dole from Namche. On the trail we can explore various flora and fauna and also experience the amazing view of mountains. In between we encounter Kangjuma village which is the junction and it divides the trail to Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp. We follow the trail to Gokyo from Kangjuma throughout the trail we can see the view of Themserku, Amadablum and Everest but the view is very pleasant and amazing from Mongla village. Crossing Mongla the view of Mt.Everest diminishes slowly and cannot be seen until we reach Gokyo-Ri after crossing Mongla we hike downhill passing rhododendron forest and reach Porsehetanga where we take lunch. After lunch we hike to Dole. The trail is steep and consist of lushly, damp forest and there are many waterfalls and if we get lucky we may see musk deer, Himalayan Thar and other wildlife too. Day 7: Trek to Machchhermo (4470m) 4/5 hrs of walking
Today’s hike is a bit easy. The trail is mostly plain and passes meadows and pastures. Walking gets pleasant and joyful along with the view of Cho-oyu, Taboche and Cholatse. We cross many chortens, small streams and yak farm depending upon the season (In winter season the yaks are brought down the hill and in summer they are migrated back to mountains).
Day 8: Rest Day/Acclimatization
Machchhermo is pleasant and warm valley. After late breakfast we hike for about 2 hours to keep ourselves active. We get pretty good time for acclimatization. After lunch we take rest and explore around the valley.
Day 9: Trek to Gokyo(4790m) 4/5 hrs of walking
We ascend up above the valley along the ridge. The path to Phangga becomes easy as we pass the flat pastureland and meadows, from Phangga we take the uphill and narrow trail and we are never far from the Dudh Koshi River as we can hear the enchanting roar of Dudh Koshi. As we reach the moraine terminal of Ngozumpa glacier we take a steep trail and reach first lake of Gokyo crossing the first lake we take a zigzag path and hike to second lake where we can take some rest and take pictures passing second lake we hike to third lake which lies along the side of Gokyo. Reaching Gokyo we take lunch and enjoy the view of lake.
Day 10: Hike to Gokyo Ri(5357m) and trek back to Dole(4790m)
We climb the Gokyo-Ri today. From the top of the Gokyo-Ri we can admire and gawk at the idiosyncratic beauty of Himalayan vista and emerald and jade Gokyo Lakes. We can see the amazing and mesmerizing view of Mountains above 8000m high like Mt.Everest, Cho-oyu, Makalu, Lotse, Nuptse, Amadablum and many more standing tall and mighty. Returning to Gokyo we take breakfast and hike down to Dole.
Day 11: Trek to Namche (3440m) 5/6 hrs of walking
On this day we take breakfast and buckle up to reach Namche. It will take 6 to 7 hours to reach Namche. On the way we will pass the forest and if we are lucky then we can see musk deer, Damphe and other rare mountainous flora and fauna. Then we ascend ourselves up to reach at Mongla. Then we will descend from Mongla and reach to Kanjuma which is the place that we left before on the way to Gokyo. After that we will gear up ourselves to Namche bazaar. Overnight at Namche bazaar
Day 12: Trek to Lukla (2860m) 6/7 hrs of walking
After breakfast we are set for the last hike to Lukla. We hike mostly down the hill crossing multiple suspension bridge following the trail of Dudh Koshi river and enjoying the surrounding environment and local villages. We take lunch at Phakding after that we hike to Lukla with a comfortable pace. Overnight at Lukla
Day 13: Fly from Lukla (2860m) to Kathmandu (1400m)30 minutes
We take early breakfast and are ready to fly back to Kathmandu. Arriving Kathmandu you will be escorted to hotel from our vehicle.
Day 14: Spare day in Kathmandu
On this day we can take tour around Thamel and do shopping. In evening there will be a farewell dinner with Access The Asia team members to mark the successful trek to Gokyo and the end of the trip.
Day 15: Fly back to onward destination
Access The Asia representative will pick us from the hotel and transport to Tribhuvan International Airport for our onward destination as per the schedule.
